OK... Its day 2 “on the road with JHawk”. Left the Vass Home, after a good breakfast, enroute to... some place west. Total miles to date are: 684. That’s 383 miles today. I am somewhere between Cody & Valentine, NE. I am in, or next to, pasture land. There is a windmill about ¼ mile to the North in the pasture. Very quiet. I am sitting on old trestle writing and one of the points to get cell phone connection. I got here about 6p and I’ve set up my tent. I was going to set up by some trees (the trees are in back of the tent), but a snake had the area staked out, plus there were 2 old buzzard carcasses I assumed he was saving for a snack.
This morning the temp was 55 at 930a. I was already on the road for about 45 minutes, still in IA. I was freezing my tush off. It was cold! Plus the wind was blowing out of the NW about 30 MPH. I had to stop for gas 3 times today. It was really bad! Pat, wish you were here. About 3p, in NE, the wind finally was slowing down. Now, 730p it is only a calm summer breeze (5mph). Also, it is warmer, maybe 65. I had supper in Valentine, (same place where we ate Pat), there were 2 old guys having their sup, and the one told me that this morning the temp was 41. I guess I will sleep tonight without worrying about snakes sleeping with me. It will be too cold for them to move.
