DAY 3

Today is Day 3 and “On the road with JHawk”. Went to bed last night with the sun (745p). The sun went down, the computer ran out of juice, and no light to read, so what is left, eh? Bed! Of course, that means, up with the sun. During the night, I heard coyotes, an owl and saw the stars without light pollution. I woke at 550a +/-, finally got up at 6. The sun was JUST breaking over the horizon. BEAUTIFUL!!! So I packed up and was on the road by 730a. (The pic is one I took at the Vass'. The loaded bike is how it looks each morning I move on. Sturgis is too depressing to take a picture of). The temp was cold, 45+/-. I stopped for breakfast at the Sand Cafe in Merriman, NE. The owner is Ladona Pascoe. The charge for coffee, tea... etc- -- DONATION! They have a Green Jug, and one put their DONATION in that. According to the owner, yes I spoke with her, if someone comes in, down on their luck, they get a meal... FREE and out of the donation jug comes the payment. Wonderful idea. As I was leaving, she asked me for a hug. Oh, golly gee! So, on I went. Just beyond Chadron, I picked up US385 / SD79 North to Rapid City. Pat, want you to know I stopped in at the Harley dealer and bought a jacket to replace yours. Sorry Buddy, just had to replace yours, it had a frayed collar. Also want to check with them about my lousy gas mileage. Then it was on to Sturgis. I am camping at Lampere Camp ground. I am the ONLY one in that camp ground. Got there about 5p. Shower tonight without everyone hogging the hot water. Today the total miles is: 944, which is 260 miles today. Tomorrow is a haul day. Still have over a 1000 miles to go and only 3 days. Sturgis is not a Ghost Town. It has a car show now. Granted, the Throttle is closed, I don’t know about the Buffalo Chip, but the speedway is running. And not many bikes. I rode Rt 34 N and could maintain 45mph. No traffic!
